Self portrait, need some criticism.

Signed up today, just got myself a Nikon D60 kit. Slightly brightened in PS, thats it. So? Any suggestions?

Vey nice. focus is soft but not too much so...it works very well. There is a bead of yellow on the right hand margin, not really adding anything, you might want to crop that out. Other than that very nice job

Thanks for the kind words. Will do on the cropping but i kinda liked the yellowish beads on the side. Thought it added some "flavor". guess not.

I agree, the yellow beads are rather distracting, I'd definately crop it out. Otherwise a pretty good photo, though the background seems a little glary to me.

Usually portraits are more pleasing when the background is darker than the subject...though it does in the end come down to personal taste.
