Default Reproducing a shot.

This is an attempt to reproduce someone some shots that appeared in Esquire magazine September 2009. That is trying to get the lighting down. Not trying to reproduce the 'sexiness' of the models (this model happens to be me so be kind). Anyways my interest was in the light and mood of the shot and I am looking for any type of feedback - good and bad. Here is a link to some of the original shots from the magazine: www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/basterds-gedeon-burkhar... www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/basterds-eli-roth-bodys... www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/basterds-samm-levine-bo... entire spread is here www.esquire.com/style/fashion-story/inglourious-basterds-... again all credit for the linked photos go to both Esquire and the photographer Carlos Serrao.

Strobist info: Flash 430ex camera right at 1/4 power, zoom set at 105.

At reproducing it i think you did a fantastic job... there are a few minor technical things i dislike...
a there is a hot spot on your coat... which makes me wonder why its "highlighted" ... it stands out more than your face.........should i be looking at the coat more than you?
not sure if you did the vingette in PP or not.. but i feel it is uneven for the picture. the back ground and you should have different lighting settings ...

Just my opinions

Cool thanks. Yes the jacket is a shiny material hence the reflection. I noticed it as well and will adjust for the next attempts. The vingette was a PS addition - when you say that it is uneven do you mean that the vingette should only be occuring on the background?

thanks for the feedback!

The vingette in the lower left is far greater than the rest of the corners... yes it is because of light fall off... but to me it feels unbalanced...

In the B&Ws things like this become more apparent

How far away were you from your back ground?... i think if you were to angle yourself different and allow your shadow NOT to touch the back ground it would have fixed it self

Hope i explained myself ... i confuse myself at times lol

I would normally place the model further away from the background, but I felt that it might need some light. But looking at it some space would have been good. I was only a foot or two away from the back ground. Normally I would try to have 8 to 10 feet.
