Default 17th week surprise!

Today we got a chance to find out the sex of our baby!... for any of your who follow my weekly post... the picture gives it away hopefully... at least i hope it gives it away!...

First Just asking for critique on composition... lighting could be better (i know) but i'm in the process of trying to make it better (learning)

Second I need help to determine/verify if my monitor is calibrated right.... ... on my wife's laptop the skin tones look blue... on my monitor they look how i want them to. I just want to verify i'm getting the right colors... i've calibrated my monitor with a print out from our favorite lab to the best i could and with "adobe gamma corrections" ......... The skin tones should be a slight warm white (caucasian) skin

Here is the pic
_9305725-2web
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 54 mm
Exposure: -0.10
ISO Speed: 160
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: One fired into the wall with 3 pink gels, the second fired through an umbrella 45 degree camera right.

Thanks for looking
A&A

Hi redcoldfire I like this shot.
Lighting is good, dof is good, skin tones look fine on my monitor.
But the shot presents unbalanced to me.
and i think if you could find a way to reshot with both your wifes arms in the shot.
It would be better balance.
have the booties fall between your wifes top and her belly button.
Thanks for sharing this shot.

Hi, I really like the shot as well.....to me the skin tones look great as does the lighting, I agree that to balance the shot and not have so much happening on the lower half u could have had the booties higher. But I think having the other arm would have been too much and it would have looked like the booties were floating, as it is I assume she is holding them which makes it more personal. Great job and congrats!!! Girls really are sugar and spice, lol

What a lovely shot and the lighting looks good, maybe a reflector to get a little light on camera left. I've looked at this on both my laptop and an un-calibrated monitor. It does look blue on the laptop, hence the reason I don't comment on any colors when I only have the laptop because I know they could be way off. On my monitor, the skin tones are very pleasing. Great job and I look forward to your future posts.

Thank you all for the comments i really appreciate it. I just thought as long as the calibration works on my computer for the print... i should be fine.

If anyone else looks through this thread, let me know if the "missing" arm bothers you or not...PLUS any other comments you got.

Thanks A&A

I like the comp. I think the balance looks good, I think it works because the booties are in the foreground giving them more weight which balances the arm in the background. I dunno, I like it. (Congrats by the way, I have 2 girls and they are a lot of fun!)

I think it would be a bit much to have both hands on the tummy, but i do get what peopel are saying about the missing arm.

I would love it if the other hand was holding the booties, and you could see the other hand, Would feel a bit more like she is telling people that its a girl, if that makes sense. I dont know how you would go about it though, But im very very new to all this though, but just a thought

Congrats on the Girl though, Little girls are lovely! Expensive but they are worth every penny.
