I was working in a Baptism last saturday when it started to rain at the place where the reception was being held.
All the parents took their kids into the place but this kid just stayed out there, playing with the water. He was all alone but very happy jumping into the water and well, just getting wet. I was covering from the rain when he started to climb the Little Tikes houses and sliders so I took this photo. Maybe is not that good, but I just looove it, it reminds me of how I grabed my bicycle and rode it for hours everytime it started to rain when I was a kid. I couldn't do much about lighting, I used my 75-300mm to get this from a dry spot so it was taken at the minimum distance I could. Do you think it's too croped? What about composition? Should I have composed to the right where there was no more visible parts of the toy and just empty space? I didn't use my flash, do you think that it would make it better if I had? 1/80 f/5.0 200mm ISO 400 No flash

Adorable picture! He's so cute!
When this is viewed larger, you can see his face is actually a bit out of focus. You can select around his face and use an unsharp mask, which helps. The colors need a little pop, which I used the levels tool to adjust. His face is a bit in shadow. You can help by adding a new transparent layer (or layer color set to none), and paint over his eyes with white in the new layer, apply a huge gaussian blur (around 200-300) to the white painted layer, then change the layer mode to overlay or reduce the opacity until it looks right. Voila, you've added some "light" to your picture. I also used a bit of dodging on his eyes to bring them out. I'll remove this picture quickly if you want.

Here's my edited version
I used elements so..... I don't know if it's the sema but instead of unsharp, I sharpened. Played with levels and here's the result. Not as good as yours but better than original

Much better. Unsharp mask is like sharpened on steroids. It really bumps up the sharpening. Nice edit.
