Default little girl in black and white

I took this of my daughter at a local nature preserve recently and I have the following questions:

Is there something better I could do in black and white to make the image pop or is this a good conversion? Is it distracting that she's looking away from the camera?

EXIF

Camera: Nikon D300
Exposure: (1/40)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 62 mm
ISO Speed: 500

Its not too bad but i feel like its missing some black. It feels a little washed out like its lacking contrast. Try using the levels tool and bringing the black side up to around 10.

It's a sweet picture, but as Eric said, could do with some more contrast.

What a great expression! Very sweet. I think a little more black would work there too
