Default Newborn cutie

Hi, I am wanting to do newborn and childrens portraits professionally in the future and altho I have to wait for my littlest to grow a bit to do any courses or workshops I am doing as much practising as I can to improve my skills along the way. So this is baby Josh who was 6 days old. What I would like feedback on is:
Does the lighting look ok?
Do u think it is a good angle?
I love the O of his lips but is the little black hole of his mouth ok?
And any other overall impressions......any feedback appreciated!

baby Josh

Exposure: 0.02 sec (1/50)
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 28 mm
Exposure: +0.25
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Overall, I like this shot a lot. I'm going to try and nitpick to answer your questions.

Does the lighting look ok?

It looks fine- what light did you use?

Do u think it is a good angle?

The angle's ok, but overall it's a little typical. Since I don't shoot babies and I hear they're quite uncooperative, I can't really comment on that.
I love the O of his lips but is the little black hole of his mouth ok?

I love the lips too! I personally don't see anything wrong with the black hole.

And any other overall impressions......any feedback appreciated!

I'd actually quite like to see this in color. IMHO, b&w works really well for high contrast images, especially when the babies have their eyes open, so color might add some extra depth to this?

I'm interested to hear what kind of lighting you used because the shutter speed suggested that there wasn't much of it. Using brighter light and a faster shutter speed might help eliminate some of the blur which kind of detracts from the photo.

Looking at your flickr, I really love the catchlights in some of your other baby photos, and I think the b&w works really well in this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/srtshoots/3905962004/
Whereas this one looks great in color: http://www.flickr.com/photos/srtshoo...n/photostream/

But all in all, a very cute capture.

Great shot. But the angle of your camera could use a bit of work. If the baby can't be put on an angle then put your camera diagonal and then photograph the baby.

Really cute !!

Thanks for your response guys!
lale: I was using natural light which I mostly do, but it was quite an overcast day..I didn't want to bump my ISO up too high tho and considering a sleeping baby doesn't move too much just tried to work with what I had...the blur you see I have actually added PP to even the babys skin which was a little mottled and have just erased it on the facial features to bring that sharpness back. I might have to lessen it tho if it is detracting. I liked most of these baby shots in BW but I will go and have a second look

KazeFox: I tried a few different angles I just wanted to know how this one worked, by all means check out the set on my flickr and let me know if any of the others work better!

Cute shot! I like everything about it except the chopped fingers. Back up a little bit and get more space around the baby. I think the angle is good, lighting look pretty good..and the little o is adorable!

Adorable baby. Cute shot, angle, lighting everything fine. But I would have tired to step back a little. Right now it kind of seems like 'in your face'. I'm not able to fully enjoy the cuteness of the baby at this position. At taking it a little back would have also brought in all the fingers and the chopped off ear.

Keep shooting.

KazeFox - u picked out my fav shot from the whole shoot! I kinda thought this was the type of angle u described in the first place...thanks for taking the time to have a look.

For newPerspective and RuthieMae here is another shot I took backed up a little (and in colour) is this the type of room that u mean? (hope it is ok to post here?)
