Default Fourth of july monochrome

This is a shot I took July 5th at a fourth party that was a day late. My son Loves to watch fireworks and I let him carefully hold his first sparkler (he is 3 and a half)
Color shot wasn't bad but I liked the monocrome look. I had only ha my canon rebel xs for about a week and was completely new to photography basically.
Just thought I would post to see what others thought and see if anyone had ideas on what to improve.

Great shot! I love how the sparkler is working as your light source to really make your son's face pop!

My only suggestion would be maybe a little vignette to take away from the background. Maybe a little copping could help as well. I would just play around with different cropping ideas.

Again, GREAT shot!

Can I suggest a little bit more Contrast. You have a wonderful idea here of having a unique light source but you could maybe show that off more. I find the background to be a bit distracting too, so maybe the contrast will darken it?

I literally said "wow" when I first saw this. Great shot. I would love to see it reposted with the vignette and contrast suggestions mentioned above.
