Default some feedback of baby portrait would be much appreciated

Hi,

I've recently submitted this portrait to 1x.com and got rejected without any explanation. Although they have an area where people can post their photos for criticism I find that the critics are generally very shallow and contribute little towards improving my photographic skills. being an amateur I'm hoping that here I can find some useful feedback on how to improve this photo. Either in post-production or in a new photo opportunity. Can anyone help?

Many thanks for any honest feedback you may provide,
Bruno

Personally, I like it..I would remove what ever that is to the right of the head though,it pulls my eyes away from the face to see what it is..

It may be the solemnity of the photograph that steered them away from it. I think the lighting is good, agree that a little less space on the right would help draw the eye. Baby just looks so forlorn -- as if he understands the true weight of the journey ahead and has already cast aside childhood.

I love the composition and I agree if you could take out the light spot on the right that would be all it needs.

Don't doubt yourself, it is a great photo. Darling baby!

I like the pic. Like other have mentioned, crop some of black or remove that grey smudge on the black. Also try not to cut people, babies off at the chin. Have the complete chin in the frame.

I agree with klam. Maybe more of a catchlight in the eyes would have made a difference. It seems like there are some but they are so small it could almost be seen as being a bad pixel. That could just be me though.

Hi guys,
Thank you so much for your comments!

I'll see if there's anything I can do to lighten the eyes, I'll remove the white spot on the right and maybe cut some space on the right (although I like the empty space for his regard). Also, I think I have enough space in the original photo to include the chin. I'll try it and re-post it here.

Again, thanks for your contructive criticisms!!!
Bruno
