Default Sascha

Hi, I'm rather new here and new to serious photography. This is my first post.

This is a picture I took of my son Sascha using a Nikon D70s and natural lighting. (Sorry, I don't have the EXIF information). Any advice you have would be great. Is the lighting ok? Composition? Post production? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to DPS,

The exif file is very important here for critique because it helps us analyse wht may have been done wrong or good on the shot. for example the shot is lovely but seems a bit soft on focus but this also may be due to a long exposure and your kid moving while the shot is taken as we see the hands almost invisible due to motion. I think the composition is fine and lighting too. i like the BW conversion.

I added the EXIF info to the the original post.

I pretty much agree on all the above.

Getting a shot as good as this at 1/13 is not bad at all thou.

Dear Shannon,

Welcome to DPS.
Sascha is a very handsome little guy and you captured his image with grace and talent.
Regarding the EXIF data, well: there are many ways to skin that cat.
I would guess you can pull it out from photobucket. I you can't you may be able to download a nice piece of free software (and all its plugins) from: IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide

Then open your picture, click in the image tab followed by info and EXIF in the newly opened window and WALLA!:
Now bear with me to the end, please.

Way too much info, that really doesn't matter. When posting EXIF info, the very most that's needed is.....

Exposure
Aperture
ISO
Focal Length
Flash
What mode, and WB the image was shot in, Manual, Auto, Program...........
