Default Brown eyes of my daughter

My daughter's eyes does not normally look this brown, I was a little surprised when I saw this after downloading.

Brown Eyes

Shutter speed: 1/60
Aperture: f/6.0
Focal Length: 120 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: -1/3 EV
Flash: Fired

I corrected the orangish tint caused by an overhead sunshade, but some of it still remains and further correction was not resulting in a realistic image. I also sharpened the eyes a bit to make it stand out.

Is there anything I can do about the tint without affecting the face as a whole?

I find two distracting elements in this one, the red thingy on the left and part of someone's arm on bottom right. Cropping both out would lead to a very narrow image. Do you think a closer crop would enhance this image or should I leave it as it is?

I'd crop out the red thingy. The arm is in adark area so I find it less of a problem. I don't notice any orrange tint.

OK, I see what you mean about the arm. Sometimes, I tend to focus so much on what bugs me rather than on the whole picture, if you catch my drift. But I still think there is an orange tint to the picture. Am I doing my "focus on bug" thing again?

Did you notice that your exposure bias is set to -1/3? I don't think this helps in this image. Also I would try to do a curves adjustment to try to bring out the true color. Do you remember what white balance you used? I think that may be part of your problem also. Are you mixing light sources here?

I have set the exposure bias on my D40 to -1/3, mainly because it tends to overexpose images slightly. I did this after my initial experiments and also after looking at various reviews and forum posts, where this was reported as a generic problem with this model. I am never on full auto, usually in program mode or shutter or aperture priority and I must say I haven't noticed any underexposure issues. Then again, not all situations are the same, so this may be a case in point.

White balance in this case was "Auto" which is where I tend to leave it unless shooting indoors or in weird lighting conditions, neither of which was the case here. The setting was bright sunlight, except that she was sitting under a tinted fibre-glass sunshade which accounts for the image colouring.

Not sure what you mean by this. The mix would be sunlight, the tinted shade and the flash. Is this what you meant?
