Question First Bride and Groom Shot (Informal)

Canon EOS Rebel
f/5.6
1/125 sec
ISO-100
55 mm
No flash
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last weekend my grandmother asked me to join her at a wedding reception and suggested I bring my camera along. They had a court wedding so they did not have a photographer - just everybody's camera phones. This shot was really just so I could have a picture of them where they were not inside a garage surrounded by things. The bride's face is like that in every photo so that I cannot do much about but what I'm curious about is the framing. Should I have shown the groom's hand? How about the colors and lighting? What would you have done differently?

Yes, I think I would crop tighter on the left side. Your camera saw alot of dark areas and tried to expose for everything. This is what is over exposing her skin. You could have either dialed in a little -ev or spot metered on something lighter like their skin.

So there isn't much I can do about the exposure but how is this for the crop? During the pictures there was a dog "doing the do" in the background and I had got it out of the shot but someone who saw us taking the pictures mentioned it and it got both of them cracked up laughing.

Do you think this picture would benefit from being maybe sepia toned? Or at least with low saturation?

There is no overexposed skin in this shot. In fact, it looks perfectly exposed. Check the histogram. She has very light skin which was registered perfectly by the camera.
