Smile Model/Photographer Biased?

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS with Kit Lens
1/100 sec
f/5.6
ISO 100
55 mm
No Flash

My boyfriend really likes this picture as do I but I think we are both biased considering he is so narcissistic and I of course think my boyfriend always looks good. For some reason - I tended to crop his head off in almost all of the photos on this shoot. I never really had a problem with it and neither have the people I'm shooting but some have told me to include his head after seeing this shot.

What do you think of the framing in this shot? Should I have included some space above his head? How about the lighting? I have yet to learn much about lighting and could use some help with settings. I don't have any flashes or anything aside from the one included on my Canon Rebel XS - so I'm working with the sun.

We take a lot of pictures when we are together. Here are a couple of others from that shoot if you're interested.

Thanks ahead of time for any help!

The only reason to partially behead someone in a portrait is when doing a close face crop. Sure, there might be exceptions, but what would you lose by aiming a couple degrees higher? You didn't include anything particularly interesting in the bottom third of the image. I say a little breathing space is a good thing. Not too much, though.

Still, I like the pose and the environment, and the colors are very nice.
