Baby Candid?

When seeing my neice recently i got this photo of her. Personally i love it but i feel theres something not quite right about the picture. Her mother is behind her in the picture rocking the horse for her but I am not sure whether i should center in more on Alex herself. Any comments will be appreciated. Looking at the overall framing of the picture, without the mother in the background it would suggest the child is wanting to be independent, riding off into the sunset (albeit on a toy horse). I prefer the maternal aspect which is added by keeping the mother in the frame; that says "you think you are riding off but I'm here to watch out for you".

However, that is thwarted because of how you have cropped a large part of the mother's head off. You don't necessarily need to include her whole head (which would make the child much smaller in the frame) but removing only the crown of her head would make the maternal care demonstrated in the picture much more purposeful.
