Default Very first self portrait

Hi everyone,
Just thought i would share my self portrait.... If anyone can pick up on anything or have any tips/ hints feel free to put pen (fingers) to paper (keyboard) and let me know.

Camera: Nikon D80
Aperture: f9
ISO: 500
Exposure Bias: -0.7ev

Im new to this whole thing so any response would be greatly appreciated

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that I really like the lighting. And the black and white conversion is very nice. However I think that the crop is too tight and doesn't lend itself to be a very striking picture even though you, yourself are striking. It's early....did that make any sense? Anyway, there's my two cents...which may or may not be worth two cents. (:

I think you cropped too much at the bottom. I was looking for the rest of your hand. Otherwise it's a great shot. You look good.

You a very good subject for the camera. I would definitely suggest showing a little more shoulder and hand in the shot though. There is something about the background - I don't know what though.

Great shot, great lighting, i agree with the crop. The background is merging with you so i would do a litle change there.

Am I the only one who thinks that the left side of his face is too dark? I do like the b/w conversion, though. You potentially have a really nice portrait here.
