Default Band Photo Shoot

I did a recent photo shoot with a friend who leads a local band.. Let me know what you think...

Can I get some critiques on how the shot was posed, lighting, background etc?

I would have to say that the brightness and busy background, the bright front subject, and the second person in the shadows keeps my eyes searching for the focal point. I think you could keep the same shot, but underexpose the background and flash both subjects.

This would be my composition.
Lead men in front. The other men behind him over left or right shoulder.
Shallow DOF so the both persons are in focus and background (try different backgrounds) is not (must try aperture priority some shots and compere the overall look).
Try the look in B & W.
