Default First potrait photo

This is my first attempt at taken an actually portrait style photo and not just a snap-shot.
Pointers I would like are in the composition, focus and whether or not I should have changed it to B&W.

Exif:
Camera: Nikon D60
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture: f/5.0
Focal Length: 122 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: No Flash

I have cropped the photo and converted to grayscale using Photoshop 7.

Would be possible to have reflector on the other side of the light source ? (white card box or similar).
The light source on his left is very powerful. this may work, but you would have to change exposure a bit (for high contrast).
I don't know what lens do you have, but if you go into direction of portrait, try to put hand on Zeiss prime lens. They are perfect for that kind of photos.
Hope it helps
