Smile Family Photo Shoot

This was only my second time trying to take some family photos and it's definitely a challenge! I'm used to only taking pictures of one or two kids at a time which is a lot different. I'm also new to posing.

Would love CC on posing.

I think you did a good job. Good composition, every one is in focus and no weird cropping off of heads or important parts. Nice even lighting too.

Posing wise I think it looks decent other than the leaves on top of the womans (your?) head. The biggest thing for me is the focus and depth of field. If you have used an aperture closer to f11 or smaller you could have gotten more in focus. It's a nice start!

I agree with mmeyer about the leaves over the lady's head. Also the man in the back to me kind of looks like he was pasted there, although I am sure he wasn't . Maybe because you just see the top part of him. The exposure looks good to me. It may help to practice looking at all the elements of the picture as a whole before pressing the shutter button. I am also pretty new to this and definately not an expert.

Thanks for the replies so far! It's a challenge working with young kids so there's only so long I have to snap a few photos before they've had it. I wasn't super thrilled with how the Dad is almost hidden in the back but didn't have anything for him to stand on (we were in a hazlenut orchard).

I totally see what you were trying to do. For me I am not fond of the guy in back. He's cut off from the rest of the family by standing behind the tree. He just looks kinda of sad with just his head poking out from around the corner. The tree is acting like a barrier between them and yes she is wearing a leaf hat.lol
