Default My gf finally sat still for me....

I am not very good at pp. I usually just do minor adjustments. Can you please tell me if there is anything different I could have done with the colour. I am pleased with the composition, but feel free to critisize it if you don't agree with it or feel I could have cropped better.

Personally, I think a portrait layout would have been a much better crop. There just seems to be too much background and it's a bit distracting to me. Her eyes should definitely be the focus of this image. They're a gorgeous shade of icy blue! She also seems to be a bit washed out. A little more depth of color would fix that right up. (In Photoshop add a levels layer over the original layer.)

If I had more time I'd play with it and show you what I mean. (I might when I get back from my lil sisters birthday party later tonight.)

Thanks.... I softened it up a little with photoshop but apparently could have done better. That's the best thing about this site. There are some many people to learn from.

I am not any kind of expert in portrait but to my eye, the pose does not do her any credit.
a portrait crop would help. I think what bothers me most is the really white hand with bright red nails on her nice colored face and beautifull eyes, it does not fit.

I did some more adjustments. It's still not near as good as most I see on here. Can anyone tell me what I can do to improve it?

Thanks Barabe. I have a lot to learn and every opinion helps point me in the right direction. Thanks

for me the main thing that drags this portrait down is the little finger in contact with mouth.
see if your GF will sit still and let you replicate the same shot with the hand further to the side. And close up the little finger.
I still think it is a keeper.

Is it me or does the pose give a strange shape to her head?

I would move her away from the wall behind and perhaps create more blur in the background. Also would either take the shot without her hand, or decrease the brightness of her hand against her face.

in addition to the comments made... i think this photo will be better if her face was not rested or actually on her palm... or should i say the weight of her head is being carried by her palm... with this, it created lines under her chin plus her chin went up creating a small like bulge.. if the palm was there just slightly touching the face and not carried the weight of the face.. you could have avoided those...

but still, photo is great and keep it up!

(im having a hard time conveying what i want to mean)...
