Default My first baby photo shoot (and my first post here). What do you think?

I have been into photography for about a year now. My sister in law has been admiring my shots of my kids and asked me to take some photos of her 3 month old daughter. I thought it would be fun. I don't have any studio lighting, I took these in front of a big window in my house.

What do you think of this one? What could I have done to improve?

Big windows are better than studio lights!! I really like the photo. Good framing, DOF, focus, simplicity. Good job. Couple of things that could be better (and I am being VERY picky since there isn't much else to help with):
- It would be cool if you could see the whole foot in the background (blurred of course). Sometimes you can get that, sometimes not. It is good the way it is.
-Maybe spot heal the skin a little (like between the eyes). But again, not necessary.
- Maybe get a little more of the top of the head. Not too much, but enough to complete the bangs a little.

You did a great job and it's really good as is.

Hi,
Well done for your first baby shoot! Great lighting and an adorable expression!

I do have a suggestion regarding framing though; With this pose I would have either zoomed out to get the hands in too (baby holing him/herself up is a mile stone) or, cropped in to just get the face, like the edit I attached (if you would prefer I don't repost your work please message me and I'll remove it)... see how it highlights that puzzled expression?

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought about this after, too. If I had turned her just a tiny bit more to the right I could have seen the whole foot.

The funny part of this photo is that it was one of the very first ones I took. It was really more of a test shot to get my settings down. The baby was still in her pjs and not dressed in any of the cute outfits the mom brought. But I loved the expression and the simplicity of the outfit.

I do like the crop that you posted. I don't think I could have gotten her hands in because she really wasn't holding herself up. Her arms were more folded underneath her. But the crop of just her face looks good.

Thanks for all the compliments and the feedback.

Keep the critiques coming :-)
