Default Baby feet :)

My primary interest is birth, newborn and children photography.
I was honored to attend this mom's birth and then did their newborn photos as well. It was my first time to photograph someone else's baby

I have another newborn shoot coming up this week! Id love some critique on this - it was my favorite shot from the day.

I know the background isnt great and is distracting
Is the baby's face too out-of-focus?

thanks!

p.s there are more shots from that day on my blog - link below!

Looks great to me. I dont think you'd want to have less blur on them if youre focusing on the feet.

I don't think the background is distracting at all. You can just barely make out the face, and the rest is just room darkness. I assume the bright line is the bassinet or blanket, and giving that brighter section with the line going straight to the feet draws the eye right to the rings and the highlights on the rings keep them there.

Great job!

Default crop

There's a similar shot that's taken frequently at my work. It's shot vertically with both rings around both big toes. The feet are overlapping slightly and fill the whole frame. It's a very striking photo.

I think the background is fine ..agree the focus is on the feet, not the face. Composition wise, I think the photo would be more striking if the adult hand under the feet wasn't there .....

A really nice shot.........definitely one to keep. This is one I would probably get a 5x7,at least, to see what it looks like printed. Nice job!......

thanks everyone. i thought maybe the face was TOO out of focus and making the baby look kind of alien-like glad to know that no one was drawn right to that thought!

Ill still pay more attention to the background. i wish it was all the same above the line of the blanket? but i still like it.

thanks for the feedback!!!

I like the shot a lot but next time you'll want to leave a little more border above the toes because you'll lose 1/4-1/2 inch of the photo when they put it in a frame.

When we did this shot at JC Pennies, we used a black or white blanket to hide the baby, but you could use it the same way to hide unneeded background too.

thanks, I always forget about the cropping for framing. need to remember before i get to the point im charging people!

thanks Liz! I just bought some black velvet to use for these type of shots and Ill be using them in my next shoot tomorrow. The white in the picture is a blanket I take with me too. In some later shots I had her hold it up behind him and it worked (like THIS one). Just have to remember it all at once
