Default head shot

Hi,
this is a head shot of my daughter... I tried to use fill in flash with aperture priority and was wondering if this works... Thank you for your comments on how to improve my shots...

Nice shot, but the background does nothing for the shot. You could blur it out a bit, and boost the contrast of the girl to bring her out a little more.

The lighting seems balanced, but almost flat. It seems there is some detail missing in her face. It could be the small size image thou.

Thank you for your imput...:-)) I played with the contrast and it brings out the details of her face better... Unfortunately the background is pretty bad. My lens has its 'sweet point' at aperture 5.6 and I couldn't get it any blurier... I could have augmented the focal length tough...:-)
Thanks again,
Sabina

Another way to improve the background in future shots is to make sure the background is more solid and less distracting than what you have there. Shoot with a hedge behind the subject so that there's a solid green leafy background that doesn't compete for attention.

Here just like Dr. Wood say a blur would work but as it is a "head shot"... maybe a closer crop to fill the frame with you daughters lovely face would do it?

A much tighter crop in portrait format would help a lot. The picture seems a little "blue" and cool to me. A slight shift in WB might help.
