I love this photo for the content, but I would like to know where it's weak. What do you find distracting?

Perhaps, I need to redirect thoughts on this thread as I've had no comments. So, Is this an OK picture, or have I just simply taken a snapshot of a cool trick.

Default No interest?

Just looking for a little dialog, if it's worth your time.
Thanks

hey hey..

its a very cute picture.. i love the 1/2 sepia /de-saturated look.

composition is good, colour treatment is good.
love the background, its well lit and the natural framing with the arm/body of the man is clever.
i would crop it tighter.. the dead space behind the baby and the window is a bit distracting. OK.. maybe just clone the window out.
the eyes of the baby should probably be a little sharper...

no major comments.. its good.

It's possible that people aren't commenting because they have nothing constructive to add. If this was posted in 'share my shots', I bet you'd have loads of people making comments, because it really is a fabulous photo. I love the minimalistic colours, the texture of the wall, and of course the composition. But as you've posted it in critique, it's possible that people simply don't see anything they can help you with, so have left it open for others that might be able to help you.

I have nothing constructive to add about improving the photo, but just wanted to let you know you're not being ignored, your photo just might be too good for this section!

personally, the child looks a little "doll like". It's almost like the child isn't "there". I think if the child were looking AT the man it would seem more "real" and the photo perhaps more "flattering".

I have to confess to having "tossed and caught" small children..they find it hilarious and I have complete confidence in doing it. But I think it would not come across well in a photograph.....

BTW, not to be too harsh, but when was this first posted? Don't get too upset if it takes a while to get some response. Many don't feel they are in a position to critique, but are still interested...thus the many views with few responses...Some don't want to "offend".

Default Well Hello.

Ok, thanks for taking the time to drop me a line. As this is my first post I wasn't real sure of how long I should wait for a response - so no offense taken sk66. Also, I have others of my son looking at my husband, but this was the only one where I caught my boy's eye directly, but I can definitely see what you're talking about "doll like".

Zespri - maybe you're right, I simply haven't thought of that perspective.

candleman - thanks for the tips, although, cloning is a foreign concept to me, I'll try playing around with cropping.

ooh... you're in for a treat then. Do you have photoshop? If so, what version? (I ask because the later versions have different cloning options).

just having a look at your flickr.. very nice shots on there.. this one in particular is stunning.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/3231850...n/photostream/
was it 4558 ? the little one crossing the cobbled road.

anyway, cloning works wonders when it comes to removing odd things from the background. pretty easy too.

most of the time you'll get a reply within 24 hours.. some sections are more popular than others so it can take a while.
also, as Zespri said. some people like to follow the rule "if you havn't got anything nice to say...."
and others just dont comment because they feel theres nothing they can actually contribute.
welcome to DPS anyway

It's funny you should pick that one because all of my Flickr photos are a combo of mine and my husbands, some are mine, some are his. We couldn't remember who took the cobblestone one for a while - but it was indeed me. So, thank you. I may post it on the share your shots.

No, I don't have photoshop, but my husband plays around with aperture and iphoto, which he did with this one. We look forward to having photoshop sometime in the future
