Default Girl on the beach

IMG_0543

This is a picture I took about a month ago at the beach. The sun was still to high and I didn't have a fill in flash to ease the shadows. I post-edited the photo, enhancing the exposure. Does this work and how can I improve?
Thanks,
Sabina

there's this fun thing i do in post that might help you put a little light on your model's face.....create a new layer and paint her face (and any other underexposed part of the scene you think best) with a soft white brush.......blur the brush with a gassian blur of enourmous proportions.....you just want light, not brush marks......then set this layer to an overlay blending mode and adjust the opacity.....

if it's not too much to presume, i've mocked up an example and would be happy to mail it to you.....you have your image set to private, otherwise i would present it to you here....

for me what i would is just adjust levels in the shadow area. i will send you a copy of the adjustment. I use Aperture from Apple. i adjust the slider for shadow and then adjust the histogram for the mids and lows. but watch out for color change and noise.

What a great little tip! I had never heard this one, so of course I had to try it. It works wonderfully!

Sabrina1970,

Just wanted to let you know that even with the underexposed face, I really like this shot!
