Default First studio shoot

This was taken right in front of my front door so I didn't have a lot of room to play with. One of the biggest issues I see is how close she is to the background, but unfortunately that was unavoidable. Further critique would be great.

Thanks!

As you point out, the bg is the major issue. Beyond that, I feel like a square crop might be more effective here. Your light is ok, perhaps a little fill or hair light might help to bring detail to her hair.

Nice subject and treatment overall! I would suggest cropping off the background some on the left side to move the subject off center. Blur the background on the left side. Some fill lighting on the right (left side of her face) would fill the harsh shadows. Lastly it all looks over saturated - too reddish orange. Pull down the saturation some.

Yeah my concern was the lighting ratio this is a single light and if I recall I think it put it at a great than 45 degree angle to the left of the camera. I shoot in raw so I do have flexibility, but I didn't take the time to have hold a gray card so the white balance is a bit off.

Thanks for the feedback!

It is an endearing shot, and if she likes her freckles, I'd only dial down the saturation a touch and sharpen it.
