Default Changing of the guard

I was looking at last years club volleyball shots and I came across this:

IMG_14328-Rebel

I used to overexpose my close up shots something fierce (I still may), but with the bright colours of the uniforms, the sunny smile, and the blond hair, does it work, or is it still too bright? If so, I can adjust the levels and maybe even the hues.

EXIF is:
Canon 300d
100mm
f/2
1/160sec
ISO 1600

This is a matter of taste. I think it's too bright and it also needs more contrast.

seems a bit washed out to me but i'm looking at it on a laptop right now and not my home puter. the overexposure makes #3 look even more pale than she already is.

i'd probably try to expose for the lightest skin tone then in pp i'd up the exposure and combine it with the original so you get the colors you want for the uniforms and have nice skin tones.

Thank you everyone for your comments. But Wood, as I mentioned, these are old games, so I can't just do a reshoot of the pair. I can make changes in my settings at next years games though.

For this shot though, how is this edit?

lava 3 redone

I tried to apply the suggestions given.

I like that, but there's still one major thing that bothers me that hasn't been addressed, and that's the depth of field that you used.

Normally, I would have seen this as you focusing on the back player and everything would be fine. But with the title that you used, I don't think such a narrow DoF was the way to go.

To me, Changing of the Guard means that both players together should be the focus of the shot. But the way you got this one, the front player is blurred.

Really, it's being a bit picky. And I can admit that. If you had given this a different title I wouldn't have thought of it as a problem at all.

But you didn't give it a different title. Which just proves that titles (and the connotations that come with them to your audience) are important.

You're 100% right Waffles-I usually shoot these on AV mode at the widest aperture possible because of the dim lighting and it never occurred to me to change the setting. For this shot, where there is no big need for stop action, I could have used even f/3.2

With people just being in a gym, I've done 16 a few times, and 8 a lot.

Thankfully, the opprotunities for these shots are pretty well planned out so you can be prepared for them.

Mine aren't. I never know when they are going to substitute, and I have seconds to make adjustments. They will run to the bench yelling "sub" and it takes 3 sec for the officials to write down their numbers
