Default Aaron and his guitar.

Hey all. Here's a spontaneous portrait I'd like some criticism on.

Aaron I

Nikon D50
50mm 1/640 sec f/2
ISO 200
Vivitar 285 hv fired vertically at above porch

I actually for the first time attempted to replace the background just for fun, but I completely failed at that.. so I left the original background. I don't know much about masking and all that. I have a lot to learn still, hehe.

Let me know what could have been done differently, etc.

The black border was created in Photoshop by setting black as the secondary color, then going to Image > Canvis Size > then changing inches to pixels, and depending on the size of the image, just type in a good size border, for example this image was originally around 3000x2000 and a 100pixel border was just right.

Thank you very much.

your friend looks completely at ease with his posing here.....

i'm not sure if you framed it this way in camera,....the cropping feels tight to me.....i would have liked to have seen the whole of his instrument and his head.....a little less with the exposure would have been nice too to keep all of your whites in check.....

thanks for sharing....

Hehe yep, he didn't know I was going to take his picture, just looked up and I shot.

And yeah, I did frame it in camera, had my 50mm f1/8 lens on at the moment, otherwise I would have liked it slightly outward more as well. While editing I did seem to see that there were a lot of blown out whites, and I wish I hadn't have had my flash on as high of a power as I did when taking this.

Thanks for letting me know what you think.
