Default Playing baby, lighting, and nose shadow

D3000, ISO 400, 1/160s, f/3.5, 50mm f/1.8g afs.

Lighting setup, 1 softbox 1 umbrella @ opposite corner.. 1 on-camera flash shot to the back.

Question 1:
1) Please critique the photo without messy... anything that you find that can be improved.
2) Please give me steps on how to make the distractive nose shadow disappear using lightroom..

Thanks very much..

My baby runs here and there without stop, so it is very hard to get him focused...

Note: I have thrown away my D5100 + kit lens into a hole in my backyard..

wow you really can't tell you are using lighting.....i am not sure they went off? maybe your rim light did if it's not natural light seeping through a window...there is hardly any light for the main on the childs face. did all the pics turn out this dark? should be a lot more illuminated using 3 flashes...

I don't understand what you're trying to achieve with a 3-light set up with a child.

It seems to be overkill for me for the purpose of just capturing him playing.

One light would have been enough either as fill light or bounced light.

If you're really just trying to practice with more than 2 light set ups, then do it with a posed subject first. Practicing on a moving kid is just not going to do you any favours.

Also, it's been advised before that you get to know using one light set up first. I would highly recommend that you stick to that for now because you are just not nailing any lighting at the moment.

Hi CC...

I think that's a cool picture - captures the babies "intensity" with the toy.

The lighting (which is what I think you are working with) seems to be stronger from the right side of the photo - out of balance with the left.

I am very much a beginner - with no experience with flash to speak of - but would seem like if you had lighting just straight on the subject it would give a better overall view of the baby without the nose shadow you speak of above.

My kids are older now - but it must be a lot of fun, challenges, and frustrations trying to get a lighting setup and work on a baby at that age!

Yes the light sources are put on lightstands, which are not flexible.. Gracious always told me to use on-camera flash.. but I just wish to determine the place to put the 2 lightstands..that work for most of the shots.
