ccting,

If you are asking me ....
Q1: Do you think he should wear white shirt instead? No. Black or white are difficult. Neutral is better or color is better. Texture is best.

Q2: Do you think the shadow under the nose distractive? Reflector needed? No. This is a child photo not a glamour photo. Personally, I like to leave as much natural as possible when it comes to children.

Q3: Do you think the left eye not clear is of no problem? No. But, in my edit, I did punch up both eyes a little. If you brighten up the shadow side eye it won't look natural -- because, after all, it is in the shadow side.

Q4: Falloff @ background particular @ head region? I would have gone for a shallow DOF to blur the background and the foreground rug.

Q5: Strong highlight @ clothes & hair, will that distract viewer from face? It can if it is too strong. The JPG was of low quality so I did not take the necessary time to make it perfect. But, in this picture you need some separation between the dark sweater/hair and the background. That is why I suggest rim lighting.

Q6: That is the objective of this pic? Face or clothes? It is a photo of the child - not the clothes. So, the face is the most important.

[QUOTE=cyber3d;1402403]

@cyber3d, thanks for the advice

Texture???????????????? ????

Q(A1): But the background is white. Neutral means gray??
Why am i asking this question?
Principle: Itten's contrast either tone / color / background attracts attention. The higher contrast, the higher attention it grabs from viewer.

In this context, I find the background is white in color. I wish to have greater contrast on face rather than its clothes. The black-white definitely give strongest contrast which distract the attention of viewers from face to clothes. So, What I think the best color for clothes is either white grey white which reduces the color contrast .. and background is absolutely will brighter than face if too near the subject..

I don't know how valid the claims of this article..

Blurring the background??

Do you think there is no connection between background and the subject? Why?
Do you think the background is a kind of distractive? Why?
What do you think the final output of photo after changing to shallow DOF? Why?

Dear Weired Girl,

May be it is not because of your lighting problem. I am facing the same problem when I am using D5100 + kit lens... everything looks seriously lack of contrast, & blur... until i use my brother's D3000 + 50 f/1.8 lens..

I don't know.. hahaha.. perhaps get other's comment again.. hehe

Well I know I am definitely not getting the lighting right but I do agree that a prime Nikon lens will give me a much better outcome... I am just trying to get the basics down before I go crazy spending money hahaha
