Default newbie taking pics of my kid.

I am truly a beginner at this and want some advice basically on composition. I"m using a point and shoot right now (saving up for a big girl camera) but before I take the plunge I want to make sure I at least have some eye for taking good pictures. Critique and any advice would be appreciated.

Hey Steph, cute kidlet!

I'd say you're on the right track, but here are some things to think about next shoot.

- if you have most of her hands in the picture, especially as they're at the edge of the frame, you could try to include them and use them to 'frame' her and draw people in to the main focus which should be her eyes / face.

- look for somewhere with less cluttered backgrounds - if you sit and look at the image, you will look at your little girl, but your eyes will be dragged away by all of the stuff in the background - keep it simple.

- it looks as though you have the light / sun behind your little girl, and so the camera has dropped the shutter speed to make sure she is exposed correctly - as a result you seem to have a bit of motion blur in the image - you could try using a mini tripod, or getting a little more light in the photo, on your main subject, to bring up the camera's shutter speed - sharper photographs.

I hope that helps... as any questions you like if I've confused you!

Welcome to dPS

Sime
