Default First Self Portrait

It was freezing outside!

ISO: 800
Aperture: 6.3
Shutter: 1/100

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I could of improved this? Now that I look at it, I could of used my 300mm lens and increased the depth of field.

I'd go in the opposite direction and decrease the depth of field. All the stuff in the background ins't adding anything to the image. It is totally average suburbia. The bumper of the card in the driveway to your left sort of looks like a boob coming out of your chest.

Using the 300mm racked all the way out might have been a good move here, though. That would have made the field of view much more narrow and removed a lot of the background clutter.

I think you would have benefitted for turning slightly towards the camera. Not look at it, but to see you eye's would have helped engage the viewer with the pic. As it stands it's hard to pick up on your thoughts or what you're feeling in the photo.

You may be looking contemplative, or lost in your world, but if your eyes were viewable we can't really tell. looking in to the dead space but being able to see your eyes would have worked better IMO.
