Default MissVoodoo - Headshot

MissVoodoo 01 by Chris Adval, on Flickr [EXIF]

Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T2i
Exposure/Shutter: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed : 100
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Exposure Program: Manual
Exposure Mode: Manual
White Balance: Auto
Lens: EF50mm f/1.8 II

Didn't do much in post, cleaned up her face a tiny bit, used softening technique, this was my first environmental portrait production. First time shooting indoor with auto white balance but tried doing custom at first then I moved the lights around too much and didn't stay in one place with shooting 4 different models. This shot was meant to be a headshot, not a environmental portrait.

Looking for overall critique...

Chris. Nice work.
maybe add a hairlight.
Not much to "fix" with this one.
Pose /expression is a bit static but that's personal preference.
nitpicky -maybe clone out the bit of door frame in the back
I'm digging it.

To add what Bruce said, there's hair on her camera right eye that I think would benefit from cloning out. Those few stray hairs I think aren't helping either, but that's just me nitpicking now.

Best that I've seen from you so far so great job!

Personally, I think the light is a little low and would have preferred to be higher. But that's just personal preference.

I think you need to start getting your models to 'work it' a little better with their facial expressions, though. Tell them to use their eyes to create expressions. That's something that needs to improve

Cheers,

Grace

a) How to add hairlight to intensifies the curly hair in this case.. any lighting diagram?
b) ISsit possible to have backlit the hair using yellow color gel @ full power (see 2nd pic)?? if yes then how? Do I need 3 light sources for the hair to get 2nd pic?
c) Is the below lighting for hair ok to show the curry style(edit using lr)?

Sry Chris, I borrow ur pic for a while..

I need to ask - do you think your edit/s are an improvement? For real?

Grace,
a) Well, they might not look good for professional photographers, but the edited photo look 'strange' enough to make those who know nothing about photography to 'WOW'... So how to get those edited effect by using the real lighting technique?

Chris, I want to jump in too and affirm that this is your best work so far.

I agree 100% with Bruce that a hair light would take this from a good portrait to a wow portrait.

My small nitpick for you is the catch lights are a little low at the 9:00 position. If you raised the light slightly, you would bring them to 10 or 11
