Hello and welcome to DPS

You almost got the shot, except that your shutter speed was too slow and missed focus. You needed at least a minimum of 1/90 or personally, I think 1/125 to minimise motion blur from your camera and subject. This would have helped darken the sky a little bit. Although looking at your ISO, why was it so high? You were outdoors and I could hardly think of any outdoor circumstances where you would need to use such high ISO.

Although I am going to guess that you were either on auto or Aperture Priority?

What was the available light when you took this? I'm surprised with an aperture of f/4 you would need iso at 1400 especially with a shutter speed that "low", but maybe I'm missing something? If you'd like both the girl and horse in focus I would start at f/8 and go smaller from there. Composition is not very interesting, they're both looking off to the right where the frame abruptly ends. What lens and focal length was this shot at? 50mm would be great for this shot. Exposure looks okay to me.

Eta: if you want a portrait crop I would try very hard not to cut the horses legs off or crop a little higher

Yeah I'm kind of new to using my camera and I've never messed with the settings, which is something I really need help figuring out. I don't know what each does
