Ah, this is something I struggle with too. Getting in focus pictures with my 50 mm. Here is what I have learned:

With an aperture of f/1.8 you have an incredibly small window that will actually be in focus. True, it lets more light in, but the "sweet spot" of the focus will be very, very small, which is why this picture is out of focus. So, I would have used a different aperture (maybe around f/5) and a slower shutter speed, though no slower than 1/50; I'd even be more generous and try 1/40, along with bumping the ISO up probably around 400.

I actually don't mind the over-exposed (blown) parts of his shirt and on picture left. I like the colouring as it feels a bit artsy and different to me. But, had this been in focus it would have been that much better.

This is all stuff I currently struggle with; indoor pictures and getting them exposed properly and in focus while being handheld, so I'm not 100% sure how good of a critique I can give lol but I tried.

This is my favorite part of the image as well. Shooting at f/1.8 has render the background into a really interesting, abstract palette of awesome colors. It would have been better if he was sharp, but the missed focus doesn't kill it for me.

It is hard to nail focus shooting wide open, but it can give a really nice look so it is worth practicing. Best of luck.
