Default Daughter on the Beach

I snapped this photo earlier this year at Jacksonville Beach. I was trying to get my daughter to do something completely different but she found the family near us more interesting and it actually ended up producing a better shot.

This was one of my first photos I had ever taken with my Canon EOS Rebel T2i.

Tell me what you guys think! I am a beginner at photography...

CRITIQUE is GOOD!

I really like it. You did a good job with the moment. She has a very intense look on her face, which I like. I'm more drawn to serious expressions than the happy smiley stuff, so it makes it all the more pleasing to me!

Some nitpicks though.
First off is the bottom. Not sure if you cropped it or not, but the cut off fingers and leg is a bit distracting. If you could get all that in, it would make it that much better.
Second, it's a little dark. The contrast is good, but the exposure could stand to be rasied some.
The last thing is the vignette. I love vignettes. Some don't, but I am a fan. However, this is a little strong. A good rule of thumb for me is to raise the vignette level to just where you can see it, then back off a little off the opacity. That way it's not so obvious.
Over all a really good effort! She is very cute!

That shoulder strap pulled down really bothers me. I am into child photography and a woman so I guess I notice this things more but it is uncomfortable to look at her chest like that. I dont think you would put this on your wall, even if it were an otherwise perfect photo. She is a small girl and it is not ok. I hope you see what I mean.

Other than that she is a beautiful girl and expression is really nice, I would include legs into frame. Perhaps it would be really cool to have horizontal cropping and have more space around her and especially to the left to let her eyes wonder (would suit the expression I think) I also think shadows are a little flat on her face, perhaps some PP would do the trick.

I really didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. I was too caught up in her expression.

Oh dear, what has the world become. Even though you're probably right it really saddens me!

Yes I think it's a lovely moment caught. I agree the vignette is too heavy. I love the black and white conversion.
