This was my first session with studio lighting. I used three continuous light softboxes, two in front and in side of her and the third directly above her head. Please excuse the lousy Christmas light backdrop, I was experimenting with it before I went and invested in a bunch of white wired Christmas lights to make a proper light bokeh backdrop (which I did today). I am never confident with my work. At first I will be happy but a couple of days later I look back on it and get depressed and think it's awful. Critiques really help me.
On that note... Skin tone? Good? I used to have a real problem nailing that and I hope I am getting closer. Focus? It looked pretty sharp sooc but I am never too sure. I did minimal sharpening in PS during processing. Lighting? Does it work? Here is the EXIF info: Shutter:1/200 F1.8 ISO100 Taken with nifty fifty in RAW Thanks in advance for the critiques! |

Skin tones look a bit greenish to me (it's not off by much, though).
Subject looks overexposed to me; somewhere around 1/2 - 1 stop. I don't see any sharpness problems, though the online version is pretty limited in resolution. I'd like to see a bit more directionality to the lighting (with hot lights, that usually means moving one light closer). That's stylistic, though, so if it doesn't meet your, or your customers' expectations, don't change that part. I'd also move all three lights in closer to reduce relative background illumination for this style shot. The subject's face is very centered, and I think that does your shot no favors. I'd recommend removing the top 1/3 (possibly a bit more) of the image when framing the shot. I rather like the subject's expression, though I know some customers would be a bit put off. She doesn't look very happy to be there.
