Default B&W Street Photo looking for feedback

Hi all!

I have tried getting some street photo shots, it's tough to get people from the front so starting from the back lol!

I am looking for feedback on this particular shot for these parameters:
- B&W conversion
- Use of square format
- Use of negative space (in terms of having the eye move into the direction the woman is walking in)

Street Walk 2

EXIF
Camera Nikon D80
Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture f/3.5
Focal Length 18 mm
ISO Speed 200
Exposure Bias -1/3 EV
Flash No Flash
Exposure Program Aperture-priority AE

Of course, any other tips and critiques are welcome! Thanks!

I like how the lines on the road act as leading lines! It helps draw my eyes into the picture. Nice composition, you followed the rule of thirds really nicely. (This rule doesn't have to always be followed, but it usually looks better if you do.)

I think it could use more space above the lady's head, and under her feet. It seems a bit cramped in those areas.
So, if you gave it more space in those areas, you'd have more of a vertical crop. I have nothing againt the square crop, it just seems a bit cramped in those areas I mentioned.

The B&W looks great on my computer. Nice contrast and clarity. The B&W seems to suit this picture, IMO!

B/W conversion sees OK but the corners could use some burning in to keep eye in picture

Square is ok, but due to the tightness of the crop you say nothing about the environment, about all you have for me is an image someone's backside.

Negative space and leading lines go right to a person with his head cut off.

keep after it

Thank you both for your comments, praise and critiques!

I agree about the tightness of the crop above the head and below the feet. My wife told me the same thing!

I will look into a more vertical crop!

CHeers!

You might want to work on the cropping a bit more. The shot can do a bit more with negative spacing, to make the transition and little bit more easy on the eyes. Try a vertical/horizontal crop, depending upon how you want to play with the lines and the ratios.

Acccording to the input from all of you I played around with the crop a bit. I found this one to be my preferred version. What do you think?

I really like the image, especially with the wider crop, I suggest something like this, bottom cropped a little tighter, the trash bin is not on the way and the traffic light seems to fit nicely at the end of the way

Both images are way too tight for me, as neither defines the situation. as for the trash that is the way it was, it add definition to the scene. If the trash bothers you clone it out but don't just crop it out.

I agree with Chris Weeks Statement street photography is to define the human condition.

watch all three videos in the first video
Stop at 1:40 and look at the irony of the image
stop it at 1:54 see what you can learn about the man and the irony of the activity.

Thanks Elmo, that was really interesting watch, I have to admit I have (had) no clue about street photography except that I like how it looks.
