Swing

I'm still trying to figure out this whole black and white thing. I down loaded an action that helped me see what I want to get too, but I'm having a hard time achieving it. I think my black and whites are ending up to grey? I'm also looking for over all critique. Like is the other swing that much of a distraction? It's annoying me but I'm not good enough in PSE to get rid of it cleanly.

I honestly didn't notice the swing in the background until you mentioned it, but I'm also not a very observant person! Is the second photo one that you edited? I definitely like the first photo better, it has much more depth, especially in the face.

The first one was mine. Do you think the black and white looks ok? Any ideas on how to make it better? I was looking at my conversions vs some I liked and mine all looked grayer so I was trying to get it to pop a bit more.... I'm just kinda muddling through in PSE and my photos lately. I'm hoping my 52 project for the new year gets me moving along a bit better....
