Default Portrait Critique Needed

Hi guys,
I'm new here, and I want some people to sincerely critique my work. I'm looking to put photos up on a portfolio so I can start a sort of side career as a photographer. That being said, I would like your opinions and suggestions on the picture I have posted. It's a portrait of my boyfriend, and after noticing the way he looked at the camera I made some adjustments until I got the finished product posted below.
I want your opinion because other eyes may see something I missed, and I really want the help.

For information: I shot this photo with a Sony a290 SLR 35 mm digital camera. Unfortunately I've forgotten the EXIF. My one specific question is whether you think the brim of the hat makes too dark of a shade, and how to get around that in future shots, though any other opinions or critiques are more than welcome. I also have the feeling his eyes are fuzzy...at least one of them.

Thanks so much!
Wholigan

PS. Trying this a second time...let's see if it works.

I personally feel the whole shot is fuzzy. I noticed a lot of noise where it looks like the camera shook when you snapped the photo.
A far as composition goes, I feel like you should bring the camera out just a bit so the frame doesn't crop off the tip of his jacket collar.
I personally like the shadow effect the hat gives on his face and I like the level of contrast.

I agree in that the shot appears to be fuzzy and this is probably motion blur. I like the pose and the overall composition as it is interesting. I think the shadow from the brim is acceptable, but it does leave the eyes looking a bit dead.
