Default tree?

i tend to be too centered in my composition...so i purposely left room to the left...
Crop at the tree trunk or leave it?

Nice photo, I'd crop it to an 8 by 10 to get rid of the tree trunk

Thanks. i like this. I guess I shouldn't worry about it - sometimes centered composition is the best hand your dealt...

I am a little torn on this one. I like the idea you had at first because it looked intentional (but the trunk did need to go). The second crop however feels like you were trying to center them but you missed by a few inches. It may be because of the way they are facing, I don't know.

Did you take any off of the right side? Or did you just take it off the left?

just the left...so I probably made it worse by not just giving in going 100% in the center. See it's stuff like this that seems easy but I struggle with it... thanks!

I see your critiques a lot but I don’t recall seeing much of your work (sorry). I did go to your profile and look at some of your other posts however.

You seem to be much more talented than myself but I would say don’t knock the dead center framing. I am under the belief it can be really powerful at times. It has its place just like framing in the thirds.

When I came back to this post, the first picture did not fully load before I scrolled to the bottom. When I saw the cropped photo first, I wasn’t as critical as the first time. It has a nice flow to it with the stream in the background bringing my eyes to the people.

With that thought, I went back to the first one and my eyes pretty much stay on the left side of the photo and take a while to get back to the people.

I agree with the 2nd crop, the centered one. God knows I take a back seat to no one in my heavy use of weird ass composition, but when it comes to a family picture like this, it's the way to go.. getting rid of the tree, well, that was just serendipity.
