beautiful shot.
I don't think freckles are an imperfection. I'd be surprised if your subtitle doesn't turn a lot of people off.
Your lighting is effective, the hair light does a nice job, maybe a tad hot. The double catchlights certainly draw you in but I wonder if it would be more appealing with the lower ones cloned out. Nice sharp focus. beautiful model. nice work.

Nice image overall, I like it. Highlight on the hair is a bit distracting for me. I'd prefer to see it as some subtle rim. I think the image in general could use a bit more brightness / exposure. The biggest draw back for me is the model's total lack of expression. She looks miserable.

Ariel, I have to admit, this was my first thought, too. (Not to mention you've spelled 'Imperfection' wrong.)

I think it would be hard for me to smile (or even be natural) as well if I knew I was going to be used as an example of imperfection. (That's even though you point out Beauty.)

On another note, I took a look at your portfolio. Very nice work!

All the best

Mark

Dear Mark,

Thanks for your comment.

First, I'm very sorry for misspelling the word 'imperfection'...

Second...I honestly don't think that 'freckles' are 'imperfection'... in fact the contrary is true....
When I shot that lovely model, She asked me to remove them in Photoshop... But I just couldn't... They made her the beautiful model she was.... hence my thought on 'The Beauty in Imperfection'....

Third, about the look.... That's the kind of look I was looking for..

Yours,

Ariel Cohen

Sorry about that....

The EXIF is... 1/200, f/9, ISO 200. I used a Canon EOS 7D with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro USM lens.

This shot was taken in my improvised home-studio with 2 Flashes and a silver-reflector.

The lighting set-up can be seen in strobox.com.

I would like to hear your opinion about the facial contour, dimension and texture, since I'm getting a mixed comments...and some saying that the image is too dull....

Thanks in advance,

Ariel Cohen

There's no need to apologize to me. I was just trying to help.

Yeah, I'm sure that you, more than anyone, saw what a lovely girl she is. I was just saying that people may get the wrong idea by reading the subtitle. (Because, of course, there's no clarification.)

If you got the look you were after, then good. I guess. But I can't imagine how she'd be happy about being labeled 'imperfect.' I mean, you're pointing out something that she was self-conscious enough to ask you to PS out of the photo.

Anyway, that's just my amateur's opinion and I'll say no more.

All the Best!

And again, I really like you work.

Mark

I do think that this is well shot, however, I feel that it is cropped a bit too tight. And yes, I agree with the others about her facial expression. That's the part that actually dulls the image. She looks bored or irate about something.

I take it the space you worked in is a little bit too tight for that 100mm prime? If I was going to do a portrait and has to be this tight, I wouldn't have her facing the camera directly but her head a bit more sideways, hair pulled back. I think long hair requires being part of the headshot as it is the "crown" of a woman. With hair pulled back, however, hair will take a back seat and let the face show itself more.

I hope that makes sense.
