My baby nephew

I'm just starting to get into photography. I found this website and have learned a lot already from reading the critiques of other photographs. I thought it would be great to get some feedback about some of my photos too. Please let me know what you think of these photos of my nephew. I can take criticism, but note that I am no professional.... yet.

I don't want to sound harsh, but there are a few things here...

1st... is the baby or the pacifier the focus of the second image? Doing selective color makes that the focal point. By doing this, you are saying.... "hey look at the thing in the kids mouth"

Selective color seldom works and is a dead trend. In this case, it really does not work for me.

2nd... the baby is out of focus on the first image and the hand is in focus. Looks like your camera grabbed the hand as the focal point. In a case like this, put the camera on spot focus, put it on the kids eye & then shoot. It will get the baby in focus. Also, perspective wise, the hand is huge. It probably should have been lowered and out of the frame entirely.

Oh BTW... Welcome to the forum. You should probably give the rules a read. You should only post one image for critique and it should contain exif data etc....

Thank you for the advice. I really have to do more to focus on particular spots on my subjects such as a baby's eyes instead of a hand. For that particular photo, I thought that the focus on the hand was appropriate because of the "hand in hand".

I read the rules after I posted... sorry for the confusion. I will only post one photo at a time in the future.
