Default The Shoemaker

Shot this at a small workshop in Thailand and I'm not sure about the composition.

The Shoemaker by TravelPatrick, on Flickr
f2.2, 1/40, ISO 320

I decided to crop his leg and head to avoid showing too much 'emptiness' in the upper left corner. I cropped them both to make it look intentional, cropping just the leg might have looked sloppy/accidental. Thoughts on this?

For the rest of the shot, the lower right corner, I wanted to show as much of his surroundings as is necessary to illustrate what he is doing yet not take too much space away from my main subject. How would you have cropped this?

Do you find the fan massively distracting? It's funny but I think it's almost helping the picture as the fan is 'looking' at my subject's head.

I don't find the fan too distractive I think it also adds nicely to this picture showing what kind of hot environment he must be in.

I too think the fan adds to the photo. I don't mind the head/knee crop. I also like how there is a hint of movement with the hammer. I may have been too tempted to go with a faster shutter speed. Did you take one a bit slower? That might be cool too.

Thanks for the Feedback.

Hack, I took a couple of shots with a slower shutter but wasn't really convinced with the results. Faster wasn't really possible, it would have gotten noisy with a higher ISO.
