Grey not Black and white... why?

Please can someone advise on why this pic is grey and not black and white? I applied a B&W adjustment layer in Photoshop but it just looks really grey to me and not black and white.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The image probably could use a little more contrast which will help it. Use the white and the black point eyedropper in levels and that will give it a little more punch. Or, do a curves layer adjustment which will also work. Nice shot of the couple, btw.

Hi, thanks for the comments... I'll set the black and White points tonight and hopefully should see better results from that.
