Default This one is titled "Oblivious to Hatred"

Oblivious to Hatred

Camera Canon EOS REBEL T2i
Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture f/4.0
Focal Length 81 mm
ISO Speed 3200
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire
Canon Exposure Mode Shutter speed priority AE
Lens Type Canon EF 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 or Tamron Lens

I don't usually photograph people or street scenes so I gave it a shot the other day. The original exposure was darker so I lightened it a bit to bring out the guy walking. Initianlly I thought this might make the billboard lighting too bright but I think the overexposure along the top makes it more menacing.

Also, there is a cartoon that is barely visible at the bottom on the white stripe under the eye. This is from the old billboard underneath. I am not big on messing around with my stuff after a shoot except for minor cropping and color correction so I left it as is.

I am pleased with the image but I want a different perspective. Please give me your thoughts on exposure and that happy cartoon face. Is it too distracting?

Thanks,

Rommel

That's a very interesting photo. I didn't notice the cartoon until you mentioned it. I just thought it was a natural tear in the ad. As a matter of fact, if you hadn't said it was a billboard, I would have assumed this was the face of the person walking. I cannot really explain why I like the image, but I do.

It's good that you didn't try to alter the billboard's natural tears and disintegration. It adds to the feel of the image. The person walking in front of the billboard gives a nice silhouette look. Be proud!

I love the concept, and the look you were going for. Unfortunately (and maybe just for me), all I see is him walking towards a giant pen_is. Maybe you can crop it out, or play with it (er...the photo :P) so it is less phallic looking??

I guess you mean that white paint on the billboard guy's face. Never thought of this as anything but face paint. Does anyone else see this?
