Default My First Critique

Okay, here goes... This is my first time posting so I'm hoping this works (and that I do it right). I took this a few days ago. What do you think of the composition? At first, I was bothered by the foot of the boy on the right being up in the air but fixing that is WAY beyond my editing skills. I did very little editing... can you tell me what improvements I could make. I considered cropping more of the grass in the foreground because I wasn't sure if it was too distracting... I'm very new to this so any pointers would be extremely helpful. I may try a similar shot again this weekend (except make sure my 4-year old keeps his foot down this time) Thank you!

There's something I really like about this photo. I like the use of the low angle and the sky is nice.

However, in saying this, I think the composition is a little flawed at the same time. The shot is a little too low and did not leave enough room at the top. The crop is too tight at the top. They are also too 'centered' , especially they are looking at something to the left. I would have liked to have seen them more to the right and leaving a bit of space to the left to give a better sense of feel to where they are looking at.

The foot doesn't bother me. In fact, I think it's what makes the photo. The boys are relaxed, the weather is gorgeous, and I do wonder what caught their attention to the left. However, again, the composition didn't leave enough room to the left to add more context to this. Yes, I'd crop a little bit of the grass as it's a little bit much. Also, it may give the photo a little bit more balance.

I don't think this photo requires much further editing at all in regards to colours, exposure, etc. Perhaps just adding a little bit more contrast may help, but then again it may not. Hard to tell unless we can see it.

Ah, I'm not a fan of that rock. Doesn't add anything to the photo and it's a little distracting. I think it would have worked better if this was taken at another angle....

I think that's all I could think of.

Good job and looking forward to seeing more photos here in the future!

Graciousness, thank you so much for taking the time to give me tips. I definitely see what you mean about the subjects being too centered. That is something I have to work on for sure... I am going to try this shot again without the rock and with the boys more off-center... Thanks again for helping me, its very much appreciated and I already feel like I'm learning more

My first post! Got a beginner's SLR camera a couple of weeks ago. Attempting a comment on a photo which i thought was flawless untill i read Greciousness's critique. A little too ambitious? Maybe.

Anyway, let me play that role and add that the white shirts and the sky to the right are a little over exposed (just learned the term recently). Love the boys' relaxed dispositions.
