Question Son reading outside

Hey guys! Its my first time posting to the forum. I've used the site for years but now I've finally gained the courage to post a photo and hope to be posting many more as my skills grow and develop.

I have my son and his (future) stepfather as the subjects in the photo. I would like to know how people feel about the framing and composition. I'm not the greatest at framing photos and I'm working on it as best as I can. I don't have the best camera in the world but I'm working with what I have. Is there anything I should do differently? Crop anything out? I really don't do much color photography either. I usually stick to black and white. So if anything sticks out that I should fix let me know! Thanks everyone for their time The rest of the set is here: Reach For The Stars - Photo Contest - a set on Flickr . Thanks again!!

Camera Olympus SP500UZ
Exposure 0.005 sec (1/200)

I like the concept of the shot quite a bit. The height you shot from works well, and I like the juxtaposition of the two subjects faces. The angled book gives you a nice graphic element that helps the composition as well.

Suggestions: I'd like to see this shot a bit more vertically. The tilt to the right doesn't work for me. This would also move your SO's head a bit more into a classic focus point for this sort of composition.

I'd also frame a bit more to the right. I don't mind that part of your SO's body is cropped out, BTW, as I think that helps maintain the feel of the shot. But you have some stuff on the left side that isn't helping you much.

I don't think I like the blown-out sky, especially because it's washing your son's face out a bit. You might try shooting this much later in the day when the sky isn't so much brighter than your subjects.

I like this shot a lot! I love how the book frames the faces, how your son is looking at your SO, the perspective and composition is great! I do agree that it could use a tighter crop, but I think that is all I would change.

Frame-able!
