Default My 3 year old

Working on doing my own portraits on my family and soon will be taking pics for a family friend and her family. Do you think the lighting is ok or is it too dark? Is the background too distracting? For portraits, should they be more central or do they need to be on the rule of thirds crop. And finally, overall what do you think of the portrait? I tried not to pose my son, I just let him do whatever, and this is the result. Thanks for your critique!

I like it! What a cutie I like the lighting and the background is not distracting at all. I like when the kiddos look like they are having fun.

Its a cute portrait and although the pose is a little 'posed', his awkwardness is appealing to me. I don't mind the background and have no problem with his position in the frame but be careful about cropping at the knees. My main problem is the 'dead eyes'. With no catchlights they just look like black holes which concern me. Repositioning him to get more light on him or using a reflector would make a huge difference. The colour balance also looks too yellow to me and I find it a bit underexposed but its a sweet shot of a real cutie.
