Default Adrenaline

Okay so let me know if this is in the wrong place, but I think it has a lot of personality to it - "I'm an adrenaline junkie" kind of vibe.

Anyways my problem is the depth, this is probably 200 feet in the air and it's just so flattened... how to bring this guy to vertigo-inducing delight?

Is it even worth the effort? hehe who hasn't spent hours on photoshop working on photos they never end up liking/saving anyways, right?

Heya EE,
First off, welcome to DPS.Can you check out the Critque section rules, and help us help you out.

Second, FU you giving me vertigo from a photo!

I really am not sure how to create a greater sense of height.. you shot it at 18mm so there's very little compression going on.. so really, I'm stumped.

Gotcha! Thanks for the welcome, I didn't read the followup about the EXIF data first time either, I'll actually put it up here now.

ISO 100

Ah, and I am glad to hear it works on you, maybe I just am being too harsh and it does work but really it feels flat.

...this is how you end up losing significant time of your life to accomplish nothing on photoshop, maybe I'll just leave it be.

It certainly feels vertiginous to me.

If you want to increase that feeling, you might try reducing the color saturation, and perhaps contrast, at the bottom of the drop. Ideally, you would want to do this with a soft edge on at least parts of the reductions.

Default Great shot!

I think it works just the way you have it, maybe you have just looked at it too many times

I think it has more to do with the crop and the framing over anything you can do in post... even the distortion tools won't really help much here in achieving what you're asking. The only thing I can think of would be use of radial blur, but then you're risking it looking completely hokey.

You have to remember that the mind uses not only visual cues but also in context. Someone falling off a log 1ft off the ground is funny... someone who appears to be falling off a log 100ft in the air can induce nausea. If you crop the image just below the log (ie removing the context) they both become equal.

The parallax is the key here, and the angle of viewing for your key components doesn't immediately portray the situation. A much wider composition that provides more visual cues would have a better chance of quickly identifying what's happening.

In short, there aren't really enough cues and therefore not enough context.

I think you pulled off the sense of height alright, but you need to get a new chiropidist

My chiropidist is exasperated at my refusal to wear shoes

Thanks for the feedback all! I will take note, next time easiest to just have something at the bottom for reference.
