Default Portrait advice...

I really want to develop my portrait technique. I'm using a Nicon D3100. Could you guys please be totally honest with me and guide me in the right direction?

I appreciate your time and comments.

Thank you.

Dave

For me, sugestions would be:

- little too much post prod.. teeth too white, skin too softened, lips too sharpened, vignette too pronounced. My advice, do want you think is right.. come back a little later and slide all the changes you made to 50% opacity!

- not sharp all the way through the face as, I think, DoF is too shallow. Close aperture a bit for wider DoF.

- For me, this crop is a bit close and you're a bit close too her. I think it looks a little tight and because you're close, a little distorted.

Prefer colour over B&W conversion in this case.

Hope this helps - regards, Matthew (nr Manchester)

Good shots though of attractive model - keep it up, excellent effort.

this is a good synopsis (which is the 10 or more letter equivalent of "+1").

Personally I like the crop and the colour version - some of the post applications as Mathew says are a tad too much, but I've seen worse in the mags. I'm not sure I like the dress and I think bare shoulders would have been nicer here, but she's a lovely model and think it's nice work!
