Any critique welcome and appreciated. Specifically wondering how I could have avoided the darkness on his hair? It was not a posed shot, just a spur of the moment. Thanks.

Shot with D5000 (Auto)
Aperture F/6.3
Shutter Speed 1/160
ISO 200
Focal length 52mm

Great idea and nice attempt. The first thing I'd do is crop with just a bit of space around the rear window allowing the window to frame the boy and background. Then I'd lighten the boy's face. As it is the rest of the truck is superfluous to the image. The old saying : if you photograph a cat, get the cat, not the cat and the whole backyard.

Thanks for the feedback. Now that I look at it, there is a lot of meaningless area in the photo. Great input.

I am by no means a professional to the point of some of the photographers here. BUT i do have some outsiders opinion. This to me is an amazing photo. I think that using that much of the truck add to the photo. It gives you the feel that the boy is driving and that he is actually in an old truck, not just framed by a truck window. Personally ( of course) i would have lied to have seen more of the truck bed. Great photo i look forward to seeing more of your posts.

I would crop in enough to take out the sky in the top corners of the photo, and at least the bottom where the lowest silver part is not even. Maybe even a bit tighter.
Seeing that face thru the window with a bit of green truck, and then the background behind is very nice!
He is the focus though, and with the truck parts, him, and what is seen thru the front there are too many elements I think.
Am not technical enough to know how to not get the hair lighter during shooting unless you set external flashes. Might be more easily done in post.

An environmental portrait of the little boy in the truck would have been cool but I don't think the back window would have been my first choice to show off both the boy and the cool truck. Maybe a shot of him hanging out a side window and incorporating some of the truck in that would have been a neater shot. A close crop with the window framing and some post will make this a stronger photograph.
